Orchids in the Wild
® Trips
A report on the Orchids in the Wild
® trip to Colombia can be found in the October 2011 newsletter.NEW:
The Orchid Conservation Alliance periodically organizes trips to locations where orchids can be viewed in their natural habitat. We are in the process of planning our next Orchids in the Wild® trip, tentatively scheduled for November 2012 in Ecuador, the country with the highest orchid diversity per unit area of any place in the world! We are planning to visit orchid reserves and Inca ruins. The biodiversity in Ecuador is absolutely stunning, and this should be a terrific trip for anyone who loves orchids.|

Past Orchid Trips
In 2005 we conducted a two week trip to Brazil and visited orchid habitat in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. Photos from that trip can be seen below.
In 2007 we again organized an orchid trip to Brazil, visiting some of the same locations as in 2005. We visited Atlantic Rainforest reserves at Macae da Cima and Regua. In Minas Gerais, we visited Ibitipoca state park and ended with a visit to the picturesque colonial town of Tiradentes. We saw many orchids in bloom, viewed spectacular scenery, ate fantastic food, and had a terrific time!
In 2009 we spent two weeks in Ecuador, visiting orchid reserves, Inca ruins and picturesque towns. We saw numerous orchids at the El Pahuma Orchid Reserve, hiked in the lush forest of the Rio Anzu Reserve, and shopped for orchids at Ecuagenera. We experienced the rich orchid flora of one of the most biodiverse places on earth as we viewed orchids in the wild from the lowlands of Amazonia to the alpine tundra of the paramo.
Information on future trips will be posted here. If you are interested in learning more about our trips, please contact us by e-mail or phone (760-753-3173).
